Playing with Absurdity
Intermediate
Service Description
Friday, Nov 6, 2026, 3pm - 5pm (2 Hours) Instructors: Adam Gribas and Jacob Andrysiak Intermediate | 18+ | Workshops are non-refundable. In our workshop, we help provide improvisers with the tools to play with surreal settings or absurdist tropes while still keeping the audience on track. We focus on ways to ground the abstract, unlock playful absurdist decision-making, and stay on the page with each other while exploring the world of crazytown. We will use a variety of solo, partner, and group exercises to unlock a play focused approach to exploring absurdity and all the gifts it can bring to the stage, performers, and audience. Teacher Bio: Jacob Andrysiak hails from Boise, Idaho. He has experience as a short form, long form, and solo performer. Jacob has traveled the country performing at festivals with The Sleepy Boys who use dreamscape to create illogical and playful scenes. Currently, Jacob is the lead organizer for the Idaho Improvathon Festival (Idaho’s largest improv festival), and he teaches applied improv at Boise State University with a focus on techniques that help honors students deal with perfectionistic beliefs. Adam Gribas (He/Him) has been doing improv comedy for a little short of 20 years now doing shows, teaching classes, and traveling to festivals. Being self taught for most of that time, Adam has a fascination with the many different improv philosophies and loves, more than anything, to be surprised on stage by those times we "throw out the rules". He's excited to be here and wants to warn you he'll get deeply existential on you as quickly as you can say "yes and."
